People in Madrid, 1808, see the dramatic events in may 2nd, when hundreds of spaniards are killed by french troops. Among the dead is Manuela Malasaña, who was buried along with other heroes and in the middle of the distraught people.

Since that night, all the people of the nation will be patriots and they will fight against the invasor. But when Napoleon comes to Spain and Madrid is taken, all of them will be living with fears and frustration. They fight against enemy and the cold winter, with little things and food for living.

When Luis Valencia escapes from the prison and comes to the neighborhood, all the people see the leader in him, a leader to confront Captain Lefleur, the french man who has taken control.
